It is very difficult to distinguish between a carrot and Queen Anne's Lace, which in many areas is a noxious weed, sometime called Wild Carrot or Devil's Plague. The carrot has a fleshy root, and Queen Anne's Lace doesn't. I always plant my carrots in rows, so I can better distinguish between the carrot seedlings and weeds.

(The best control for Queen Anne's Lace is to plow it under before it produces seeds. It is a hardy plant and spreads
rapidly.)
