How can I find a flowering plant when I only know its appearance ? I had a bautiful flowering plant that would flower in April-may time frame in Richmond, Va. It was a tall 12-14

You really didn't provide nearly enough information so I can't positively identify it, but here are two educated guesses:
Caldochortus albus, also called Globe Lily, with large spherical to rounded, paper-thin puffs and narrow green foliage; or Fritillaria thunbergh or F. raddeana, both with large creamy white flowers. Flowers hide within the foliage.
