|I have a very BORING Porch. I am taking a couple of steps to remedy this problem. First I have a wind chime, some Tibetian prayer hangings, and I am getting a humming bird feeder. What I would really like is some potted plants to bring color to the porch. I live in an apartment and the porch is my version of a back porch. It runs along the side of the apartment and gets a fair amount of sunlight in some parts and absolutly none in others. I'm not sure what kinds of flowers to look for. I know I can look at the tags on the plants, but there are often an overwhelming amount of plants to look at and I would just like a good starting point so I don't spend all day just looking at tags or find a flower I absolutely love only to find out it won't survive those conditions. Another concideration is that I live in the desert southwest. So the summer gets up to 110 in the sunlight. If it is a flower the humming birds might like too it is an added bonus. I am fine with potted or hanging plants. It would be probably good if the plant can come in during the winter.
PLEASE HELP!!! Thank you for all that time. If you couldn't tell....this is my very first attempt at having my own plants.
You actually have quite a few options. It is a bit difficult to know where to begin with a general question and so many plants to choose from. If you see some plants and want to submit another question asking about their suitability and/or pro's and con's I'd be happy to provide some feedback on them. That said, some plants to consider include 'Gold Star' esperanza or yellow bells (Tecoma stans) in a large container, Starry Eyes nemesia, dwarf lantanas, Salvia 'Mystic Spires', Batface Cuphea, and Duranta (large container).
Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
