I heard that it takes up to 5 YEARS for a strawberry to grow! I also heard that you have to grow them on a vine or on a stock? |
Strawberry plants are usually purchased as young bareroot plants. These are planted in the garden in very early spring to establish the strawberry bed. They should bear a crop of berries the following year. Strawberry plants will runner, meaning send out wiry stems with baby plants attached to them. These baby plants should be separated from the mother plant so it does not become too crowded in the strawberry bed. If you wish to increase your stock, you can save the first runner produced by each plant as this will be the most vigorous of the runners. Strawberry beds need to be renewed periodically with the original old plants being removed and replaced. I hope this helps. |
