I bought a Monrovia Black Tulip tree from a nursery and was confused what color the flower should be? From the description on the website it states the flower is dark burgundy in color throughout and shown in the pictures and the tag that was placed on the tree with the description when I purchased it. I'm confused because mine is not that color, they are with an interior of a purplish white with purple exteriors. Could there have been a mix up with the tree at the factory, that it was mislabeled and I got the wrong tree? I'm confused because I've seen one before and the flowers were dark burgundy throughout?

Black Tulip magnolia has burgundy flowers but there is a lighter color evident when the flowers are unfolding. If you look at the Monrovia online catalog, you'll see the paler color. Why not wait until the flower is mature and then take it back to the nursery to compare it with other Black Tulip magnolias? This would clear up the confusion and you'll know for sure whether or not the flowers on your tree match the others. Best wishes with your new tree!
