How much and how often should a bougainvillea sp be watered.

Once established they don't need a lot of supplemental water as their extensive root system is fairly drought tolerant. However a plant that has been in the ground a short time, or even up to several months, may need watering every few days to keep the roots moist. Just don't keep the soil too wet as this is detrimental to them. When you water, apply enough to give the soil a good soaking at least 10 inches or so deep and then back off and allow the soil to dry out some before watering again. The soil type and temperatures will determine how often you will need to apply water to accomplish this.
