|The problem with common names is that they apply to different plants in different regions of the country. Genista monspessulana is commonly called French broom and is indeed an invasive plant in California, spreading rapidly by seed. Monrovia sells Genista pilosa, sometimes called French broom. Genista pilosa is a different species and not considered invasive. Reputable nurseries will not sell plants in a region where that plant is considered invasive. Hope this clarifies things for you.
