I have a shady/sun-dappled flower bed with privets in the back and liriope in the front. I would like to plant astilbe in the middle. Your website says that astilbe will thrive in zone 9, but I am concerned that none of the Houston nurseries carry it. Will it be ok in my flower bed? Are there particular varieties of astilbe that will do better than others? Can I order it online? Thanks |
Molly, Astilbe is very marginal at best in your zone due to the long, hot, sultry summers. I suggest you consider another plant for that area. Some possible choices include Persian Shield, various types of ginger (variegated ginger would be great), or perhaps pentas (an annual flower). Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon! |
