I have a small patch of grass in front of the house where my mailbox is at. I want to remove the grass and put ground covers or make a flower bed w/perennials or even annuals. My question is how do I remove the grass, so that it won't grow back?

You have several choices. In a small area, you can dig it out by hand using a sharp flat spade. Knock off the topsoil from the roots and return it to the garden area, then compost the grass. Or you can spray it with an herbicide containing glyphosate, be sure to read and follow all of the label directions. Or you can mow it short, cover it with several layers of damp newspaper and top that with an organic mulch, and wait for it to smother. This takes several months.
