|To grow a small section of grass, do you need to use fertilizer? Thank you
|Ideally fertilizing is done on the basis of soil tests showing that you need to fertilize. If you just need to seed a small patch to fill in a bare spot for example, you could use a small bit of fertilizer and scratch it into the soil before you seed. If you have already fertilized the overall lawn area including that patch then more fertilizer is probably not needed. Or, you could use one of the socalled patch kits that include seed, fertilizer and a mulch material altogether. It is more important to loosen the soil to encourage rooting, firm the soil after seeding to assure good seed to soil contact, and to keep the soil moist until the seeds germinate. Good luck with your seeding!
