When is the best time to prune a Hong Kong Orchid Tree? How much can/should be pruned at one time.

It isn't necessary to prune off the old flowering stems, but you can thin out any crowded growth when blooming is finished. Your tree will have an umbrella shaped growth habit, reaching about 20' high and wide at maturity. Regular pruning is not necessary but you can certainly prune out errant growth, or anything that's overcrowded. The rule of thumb is to prune out less than one-third of the live growth during any pruning session. Enjoy your lovely tree!
