If you prune beginning when it reaches the height where you wish to keep it, you should be able to maintain that height through ongoing pruning. If however it is already much taller than desired, it will look unnatural if you cut it back short and/or narrow. The bare wood will not regrow foliage so you will have bare stubs thereafter. If you need a plant that is much smaller, you might be happier in the long run if you plant something that matures to the size you have space for. Your local professional nursery staff and/or county extension should be able to help you identify plants that would thrive in the location you want to plant and also meet your design and size preferences. I hope this helps.
