Kousa dogwoods need more sun than the native dogwood trees, in too much shade they will not bloom. This is a plant for full to partial sun, so provide five or six hours of direct sun as a minimum. All day sun is better.

The "Black Magic" elephant ears can handle direct sun all morning or even all day (I would not recommend afternoon-only sun) if kept constantly moist such as by standing the container in a saucer of water or preferably, growing it in a garden pond as a bog plant. In soil with less moisture it will need more shade, meaning a few hours of direct morning sun, or bright dappled light or filtered shade all day.

I hope this helps.
