I'm new to the southern CA area (VERY windy here and the back yard is mostly sunny) and have a black thumb...would like to try my hand at growing some potted plants. Don't want to introduce any plants that are NOT native to this area. Any suggestions for low-maintenance, drought and wind resistant plants? They'll be in a courtyard (house is U-shaped) that is mostly sunny.

Thanks for any help/information you can provide.

There are about 6000 native plants from which to choose - here's a web address listing and describing each one: http://www.laspilitas.com/plan...

Once you've narrowed down the search and chosen your favorites, you can plant to your heart's content. Enjoy your new garden!
