| I would like to plant a flowering cherry tree in my front lawn. The tree I'm looking at is for zone 4-8 from your product listing. How large will the root system be? (i.e. how far away should I plant it from our house?) Also, does this tree bear fruit and thus attracts birds? thank you, |
| There are numerous flowering cherries listed for zones 4 through 8 and they have a variety of mature sizes. Each listing includes a mature size description to help you learn about the tree. The roots typically spread at least as wide and up to half again wider than the branches. Usually you would plant the tree far enough away from the house that it can grow to its full anticipated width without the branches touching the building. Also, since cherries do best in full sun locations you do not want to plant it so close that the house would shade it. Most ornamental cherries are grown for their blooms rather than their fruit. They tend to have very tiny fruit or none at all, so are not particularly attractive to birds. |
