| My mimosa tree is 4 yrs old and flowered last year. This year most of the branches are DEAD and I have 4 litte sprouts at the base of the tree. Am I going to lose it or is there something I need to be doing? I hope you can help me. Vicke DeVoss |
| Dead branches are never a good sign! However, since your tree is sending out new sprouts at the base, it means the roots are still alive. I don't know what might have killed your tree - drought, soggy soil, freezing weather? - but if the branches are dead, prune them off and cut the trunk down to ground level if it is dead, too. Then allow the sprouts to grow. One of them can become a brand new trunk. After they have grown for a season, choose the healthiest, tallest one and cut the others away. Eventually you'll have a new mimosa tree. |
