I think of all your preferences, camellias would be the most successful in the site you describe. They're evergreen, provide seasonal color, will grow happily in a mostly shady spot and can be sheared or trimmed to maintain an attractive form. Now your biggest decision will be what color. White, pink, red, multi-colored? Enjoy!
