Do you have your suggestions for grass seed for lawns here in West Virginia, and when is the best time to sow?

Well, the "creme de la creme" for your area is 100% Kentucky Bluegrass, or you could consider a lawn seed mix designed for whatever traffic/lighting needs you have (high traffic vs. low traffic, sun vs. shade). A good seed mix could include different percentages of the following: Kentucky Bluegrass, Perennial Ryegrass, and Fine Fescues. Grass seed in your area should be sown in the early fall for best results, preferably September. If you must sow in the spring, shoot for around mid April. Your first step in installing a new lawn should be to perform a soil test -- your local Cooperative Extension Office can provide you with a soil test kit.
