endless summer hydrangea - Knowledgebase Question

Yesterday morning I bought a Monrovia Endless Summer Hydrangea at Cross Seed Co. It was drooping to the ground, but the blooms were so beautiful and the lady told me it had gotten dry, she had just watered it and it would stand up soon. I put in in my back yard, left it in the pot, made sure it had plenty of water and it is still drooping to the ground. It has also had some sunshine. It was $46.00 and I am wondering if I should return it.
Thank you.
Sandra

Hydrangeas tend to look wilty if they're in the hot afternoon sunshine, but the leaves perk up overnight and the plant should look healthy the following morning. So, if you decide to keep the hydrangea, find a site with morning sun and afternoon shade to avoid the wilty appearance. Now for the facts about water stress - most healthy plants can survive an occasional drought. But, if they've experienced repeated droughty conditions, the tissues within the stems and leaves can be damaged and may never recover. Since I don't know whether the plant went unwatered for a day or several times over a long period, I really can't guess how much internal damage might have taken place. So, whether or not you decide to exchange your plant is really a person decision. Best wishes with your garden!
