What type of evergreens and shrubs would you recommend planting in an area where deer wander through your yard and eat your plantings?

Unfortunately, it is difficult to recommend plants that are deer resistant. Deer in different areas have learned to eat different plants, and they learn to eat new plants over time especially if the browse pressure is severe and your property is already on their browse trail. The best defense is a tall fence or possibly an electric fence, although some gardeners have had success using the spray on repellents sold at garden centers. Also, your neighbors are your best resource for knowing which plants are already favored by the local deer population. Having said that, here are some lists you may find helpful.

Your local county extension and/or professional nursery staff may also have more specific suggestions based on knowing more about the planting conditions where you want to plant and your overall design goals.
