I just purchased a perilla magilla plant at my local Home Depot store. With this being Ohio (cold winters & snow), will my perilla magilla return next spring or will it die? Is there anything I can do (besides digging it up this fall) if it won't make it thru an Ohio winter? |
This plant is not winter hardy in Ohio and it will definitely not survive a winter outdoors. There is no way to protect it enough outside -- it is only hardy in zones 9 through 11, which includes areas such as southern Florida. You could grow it as a container plant this summer and then bring it indoors as a houseplant, otherwise you would need to plan on replacing it next spring. Many gardeners in cold winter areas such as yours like this plant so much that they don't mind replacing it every year. |
