I just received this plant as a gift. It is about 22 inches high and is in a square container about 14 inches on the diagonal and 11 inches deep. Can it stay in the container? If so, is there anything special that needs to be done to keep it healthy? Thanks, Jean

Your Plum Passion will eventually appreciate being planted in the ground but for the time being, you can keep it in the nursery pot. Replant it next spring, either into the next sized pot or in the ground. Nandina sends new shoots out from the roots (they like to colonize an area) so don't be surprised if your plant begins to get crowded rather quickly in the pot. It's okay to transplant in a larger pot, in new potting soil each year - or to plant it in the ground. Aside from sunshine and regular applications of water, there's not much you need to do to keep your nandina healthy. Enjoy your new plant!
