We planted 45 Italian Cyprus trees from 5 gal containers in our driveway last Fall. They are now about 5-6 ft high. The stakes are still attached. When should we remove the stakes? We live in Southern California in the Pasadena Foothills. It can get breezy, but we only get Santa Ana winds.

I think it's safe to remove the stakes now. Your Italian cypresses were staked in their nursery pots mainly to keep them from being damaged during transit and while they were living at the nursery. Now that they are in their permanent homes and have had several months to establish their root systems, they should be able to stand up straight without the aid of staking. If, during wet, windy weather, one or two begin to list, you can re-stake them. Otherwise, they shouldn't need staking. Best wishes with your landscape!
