|About three years ago I bought a beautiful purple/dark red (sort of like the dark color beech) walking stick tree (the limbs are straight) I was obviously trained to grow like a rose tree or even lantana tree. Straight trunk with branches on top. It's in the same huge container and even tho it's doing well the color is fading every year. Leaves reappear w right color then slowly turn to green. It gets direct sun for about a hour or two and is one of the highlights of my garden. Must admit I don't fertilize as much as I should, is there some particular brand I could try to bring back my black beauty. Appreciate any tips you would like to share.
|Based on your description I am not certain if you have Coryllus avellana "Fusco rubra" or Coryllus maxima cv. purpurea. However in both cases the dark purple foliage will gradually turn green as the summer progresses. Using a different fertilizer would not affect the color and you certainly do not want to overfertilize it (and encourage excess growth) since it is in a container. As long as it seems healthy overall, I would not recommend any changes.|
