|I have just planted 7 of the above referenced conifers from monrovia only to discover that I live in zone 8!! Are the plants going to be OK? How do I water them how long and how often/ what time of day )? Do I need to use a root stimulator at this time? Do I fertilize in the fall and spring (when exactly?) It is very hot during the day and I have been watering them alot in the late evening.
|I think the Junipers will be alright in your gardening region. Although heat does affect plants, junipers seem to like growing in the heat. Daily watering is a no-no! Junipers appreciate a thorough watering once a week (twice if it's really hot). I'd suggest digging out a watering basin or well beneath each of your junipers and watering by flooding the basin, allowing it to drain, then flooding a second time. Once a week should do it. Watering in this way concentrates the moisture over the root system and allows it to trickle down and wet the entire root mass. This will encourage a deep root system which will help anchor your junipers and help them avoid water stress in the summer heat. Early morning watering is my preference; if you water late in the day, be sure to keep the water off the foliage so you don't invite disease problems. I wouldn't use a root stimulator, and I wouldn't fertilize the junipers at all, unless their growth seems slow or the color isn't quite right. Be sure your junipers are planted in well draining soil (root rot is a problem if the soil remains soggy). Best wishes with your landscape!|
