Buddleia davidii, the Butterfly Bush, is most easily propagated by root division. Divide in early spring by cutting most of the branches to within a few inches of the ground, and then digging up the entire root ball. Divide by cutting through the root ball with a garden spade. Then plant each of the newly liberated clumps of roots into new spots in the garden. Buddleia's grow best in full sunshine with good soil drainage.
