I was wondering what kinds of fruit that I can grow indoors year - round. Is a mango possible? Do they have any dwarf varieties?
|It is difficult to grow tropical fruit indoors and obtain a crop of fruit. The reason is that the light is not intense enough, and most of the fruits grow on large trees that do not thrive in containers. Temperate fruits are also difficult because they require a chilling period in order to bloom and set fruit. Your best bet would be some of the citrus on dwarfing rootstock and possibly also pomegranate. Here is an article on growing citrus indoors that you may find helpful in determining if it is feasible for you. You may need to cut and paste the complete url into your browser to make it work correctly.
Also, here is some information on growing mangos which can possibly be done -- if you have a greenhouse.
Good luck with your project!
