| I have been trying get my grass to green up. I am watering it for a good 3-4 hours every evening after it cools down and the HOT sun goes down. This yard has NOT been cared for in a long time. I did aerate it a week or so ago. |
| You may be overwatering. Bermuda typically needs watering every 2 to 3 days in the low desert when temperatures are over 90 degrees. Overwatering can promote yellowing. Water should soak to a depth of 8 to 10 inches, which is the depth of the major root system. Use a screwdriver as a soil probe. It will move easily through moist soil but stop at hard, dry soil, so you can determine how long your sprinkler needs to run to apply sufficient water. Also, the aeration will help, but it may take a while. You didn't say whether or not you fertilize. First, I'd recommend getting your irrigation system on the proper time schedule. Then, if it doesn't green up, fertilize. Be careful not to overfertilize, which can create more problems, by "Burning" the grass. Fertilize no more than once per month.
