| I have climbing roses in full sun growing up an arbour, however they look more like floribunda as they have the long stem and then burst into a profusion of blooms about 5 or 6 roses from the single long stem. My question is how do I dead head them? Cut right back to the single stem which would take the 5 or 6 blooms or dead head each bloom leaving the 5 or 6 small stems on the one long stem? |
| Deadheading, or removing spent flowers on a cluster-flowering rose such as yours can be as labor-intensive as you want. You can remove individual flowers as they wither, or wait until the entire cluster is spent and then remove it. I wait until the cluster is spent and then cut it off, along with the long stem it is attached to. This encourages additional new growth which often flowers later in the season.
