i just bought a golden smoke bush which is supposed to have yellow leaves. the nursery where i bought it from kept the smokebush in only part sun so the leaves are more greenish than yellow; i just planted it last week it a super sunny location and it appears that the leaves are turning less green and more yellow; is this natural considering the change in lighting conditions or could this be stress? the tree has only been in the ground for 2 weeks thanks brad |
Plants with golden foliage do normally turn greener in shadier sites and will be the brightest gold in full sun. In addition, younger foliage on this plant is a sort of chartreuse and matures as the summer progresses to a more golden color. So the color change is probably normal. If however the edges begin to brown or you see browning overall, or if fall coloring begins to develop prematurely, then it would not be a healthy change. Since this is a new plant, I would suggest you consult with your retailer if you are still concerned about your new plant. |
