|I'm seeking information on how to start vegetable seeds indoors using gro-lux lamps.
|Vegetable seeds can be successfully started indoors by planting them in trays of moistened potting soil and covering the trays with plastic wrap. Put the trays in a warm location such as next to a water heater, or on top of the refrigerator until the seeds germinate. After seeds have sprouted, remove the plastic wrap and put the trays under a source of bright light. Your lights should be about 4-6 inches above the tops of the plants, and left on for 14-16 hours each day. Adjust the lights as the plants grow, keeping the bulbs about 4-6 inches above the tops of the plants. Don't forget to thin your seedlings as they grow, removing all but the most vigorous sprouts. When they've developed two sets of leaves, transplant each seedling into an individual pot. When the weather has warmed outdoors, you can begin to harden off your seedlings by putting them outside during the day and bringing them back in at night. After about a week of this treatment, your plants can be safely transplanted into the garden.|
