| I planted 10 blue star junipers two years ago on the west side of our home. The junipers have dead branches on them and do not look good. This spring I have faithfully applied Miracid every 14 days. They do have some new growth on the healthy branches. Since our hot weather in the 90-100s this week, they have a lot more dead branches. Is there anything I can do to save them, or do I need to look at replacing them with something else? Our local nurseryman told me he has never had any luck with these and does not carry them anymore. | Unfortunately, based on your description I am not able to diagnose the problem with your junipers. It might be related to over or underwatering, poorly drained soil, failure to root due to poor planting technique (eg planting too deeply or with encircling roots) or a soil incompatibility, an insect problem or a disease problem. I would suggest you work with your local county extension to try to determine the cause of the browning and based on knowing that, decide how to proceed. If it is something that requires a chemical control, they will have the most up to date information on what to use and how/when is best to apply it. I'm sorry you are having trouble with your junipers, usually these are considered easy to grow and reliable landscape plants for a sunny location with well drained soil and are tolerant of a wide range of growing conditions assuming those two basics are met. |
