I understand I can't use a "Japanese Plum" to pollinate a "European Plum", but can I graft a Japanese Plum scion to a European Plum tree? I would like to graft a "Friar" scion to a "Green Gage" tree.

I wasn't able to find information regarding these specific varieties, but I know that, in general, European (Prunus domestica & P. insititia) and Japanese plums (P. salicina) have less compatibility than American (P. americana, hortulana, munsoniana) and Japanese plums.
