|I planted my tomatoes and they are growing nicely however I didn't stake them and they are growing on the ground. Should I lay landscape fabric down and let them lay on it or what? thanks Dave
|The plants themselves will be fine laying on the ground. In fact, if it is bare soil, they may even root at the nodes! As far as keeping the fruit clean, you can lay squares of landscape cloth beneath them, or even a couple of handfuls of straw. This will help keep mud from splashing on the fruits. If you use straw, you can dig the straw into the soil at the end of the season for a little extra organic matter.
Hope you have a bountiful harvest!
