According to Michael Dirr's Manual of Woody Landscape Plants, the seeds should germinate easily. However, he goes on to note that if they are very hard and dry, you should soak them in warm water for 24 hours prior to planting them. You might also try a bit of gentle bottom heat. When you plant the seeds, use a barely damp soilless mix, plant the seeds just deep enough to be covered, water lightly to settle the soil, then cover the pot with plastic wrap (to maintain humidity) and set it in a bright location out of direct sun (direct sun would cause overheating in the closed container). Check for germination often and remove the cover as soon as they sprout. I'd store them in an airtight container in a cool, dark place and plant them in the spring.

Best wishes with your project!
