Phormium Wings of Gold tips turning brown - Knowledgebase Question

What does it mean that the tips and sometimes the sides and middle of the leaves are turning brown? I planted it in early June in a dry, well-drained spot that gets morning and late afternoon sun. I watered it three times weekly. July was very hot. I continued watering. The brown tips started before the hot spell and have continued.

A nitrogen deficiency is often associated with leaf margin necrosis in Phormium. Try feeding your phormium to see if that improves the appearance of the newly emerging foliage. (Nothing will fix the already affected leaves.) For quick results, use a water-soluable fertilizer such as Miracle-Gro or Peter's, diluted according to label directions. Best wishes with your garden!
