How to start an Adam's needle from their seed pods?

Yucca is usually propagated by dividing off the little pups or starts that surround the original plant. However, you might be able to start it from seed. Collect the seed in the fall just as the pods begin to split open. Store in a cool dry place over winter, then plant in the spring. The seed should be barely covered with a dusting of either coarse sand or vermiculite. It can take about a month or as long as a year to germinate with best results at a relatively warm soil temperature, say 70 degrees or warmer. Good luck with your project!
