|I have had a couple of ButterFly Bushes since Spring of 2005.They were just tiny plants then. They grew to nice small bushes and bloomed during the Summer of 2005. Last Winter I just mulched around the base real good with pine straw. They have grown to be rather large bushes this Summer and bloomed very well. My question is when do I cut them back? Also if I do prune them will they come back and grow to be big bushes again next Summer? I look forward to your reply. Thank You, Esther Harrell firstname.lastname@example.org|
I suggest cutting them back in winter. They will regrow and bloom well when the weather warms up. After one bloom cycle is winding down you can either snip off spent bloom shoots or shear the bush back by 1/4, fertilize it and water it well. It will respond with more growth and blooms. Mid to late summer is usually a good time to give it a shearing to prepare for a nice fall show.
Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
