My tibouchina has been beautiful this year and is still in bloom but I noticed that it is covered with tiny ants (? sugar ants). They come from out of the ground at the trunk and are all over the branchs and the flowers. Is this normal or do I have a problem? The tree looks healthy but I am concerned. Please advise....Thankyou

Tarry,

They are probably looking for aphids or some other such insect from which they can get a sugary substance the bug produces. It could also be that the plant produces such a substance. Either way the ants are not harming the plant.
