| I wish to plant a boxwood that will be out in the open, with no winter wind protection, and be hit with full sun in the summer. I have dwarf barberries in this spot now and they do very well. Are these conditions too much for a boxwood? If so, can you suggest an alternative evergreen shrub? I live in SE PA. Thanks. |
| Sun is not a problem for boxwoods. But boxwoods really do better with wind protection in the winter, excess wind can contribute to tip dieback and bronzing. If you want to try it, use one of the hardiest varieties also noted for holding their green without bronzing, such as Green Velvet. Also consider giving it winter wind protection for the first few years until it is well established. |
