Should I prune the suckers at the base of my four and a half foot avocado tree? |
You can safely remove the suckers by pruning them down to ground level. In commercial fields the suckers are regularly removed. If a tree looks weak or diseased, one of the suckers is allowed to grow for a few years. Then the diseased tree is cut down and the sucker is trained into a new tree. (Just a bit of trivia, but I thought you might be interested.) Best wishes with your avocado tree! |
