I am planting a small to med. size tree at my sons school. I have a list of approved trees from LAUSD. We are 1 mile from the beach. I want it to bloom during the school year and to be relatively hardy. There are lawn sprinklers. The leading contenders are:
1. Bauhinia Blakeana-Purple Robe Locust
2. Pyrus Callerana-Flowering Pear or Kawakamii(evergreen)
3. Tabebuia Imp.- Pink Trumpet
4.Chionanthus retuses -Chinese Fringe Tree

These are not on the top of my list:
6.Crape Myrtle
I would appreciate some expert feedback. What would bloom the longest during the year and would do the best and is the prettiest.

Thank you,

For all-around attractiveness, Purple Robe Locust would top my list. For long flowering, Tabebuia is the tree of choice; for ease of care, flowering pear would be the best. What a shame you have to narrow your choice to just one tree!

Best wishes with your new tree!
