|The Azaleas I purchased have a tag that says to feed with acid fertilizer after they bloom. Do I feed them:
1. Before they bloom?
2. While they bloom?
3. After they stop blooming? If so, for how long?
|Azaleas use a lot of stored energy during spring growth and flower bud production. Once the flowers open, the plant is in need of some nutrition. Since fertilizer encourages growth, if you feed before flower buds develop, the plant may divert its energy from developing flowers into growing stems and leaves. That could result in no flowers at all. So, feed once in the spring, after the flowers have opened, and your azalea should be happy.
