I HAVE MONROVIA PURPLE FOUNTAIN GRASS PLANTED IN MY YARD. HOW DO I CARE FOR THEM FROM NOW TILL SPRING? DO I CUT THEM OFF? LAST YEAR I LEFT THEM ALONE ALL WINTER AND IN THE SPRING MY LANDSCAPER CHOPPED THEM OFF AT THE BASE -- SO I DUG THEM UP AND PURCHASED NEW. I DONT KNOW IF I NEED TO REPLACE THIS PLANT YEARLY. PLEASE ADVISE.
REGARDS,
AMY CICIO

Pennisetum setaceum 'Rubrum' is only winter hardy to zone 8, so it would not be expected to overwinter successfully in your area -- your zip code places you in USDA winter hardiness zone 6B or the warmer part of zone 6. (Some ornamental grasses are winter hardy in your area. These are cut back each year in late fall or early spring and then regrow from the roots every summer.)
