Is there any way I can send you a picture of a plant that is in our front yard? They say it is a rose bush but it doesn't look like one and it is growing out of control and needs to be pruned. We don't know how because we have no idea what kind of plant it is. |
Sorry, but there's no way for us to receive pictures through this forum. There are lots of kinds of roses and the old fashioned kinds can become unruly if not pruned back so perhaps your plant is a rose. Since it is growing out of control, pruning it back is a good idea. Wait until late winter when it is dormant, or early spring, just as the new leaf buds begin to swell. Cut all of the stems back at various heights, cutting back to an outward facing bud. Watch to see whether or not it produces roses. If it does, you can prune it back more severely next winter; if it produces some other kind of flower, take one of the flowers to your local nursery and ask them to identify the plant.
