|Do canna tubers need to be removed from the soil in winter months here in the hills of Los Gatos, CA (zone 8B)? We get several days of sub-freezing in the winter. Is it necessary to go through the trouble of digging them up and storing?|
|In your mild climate all you'll need to do is wait for frost to kill the tops of the plants then cut away the dead foliage and cover the bed with 2-3 inches of organic mulch (to help protect the rhizomes and to maintain soil moisture). In the spring new shoots will develop and you can move away the organic mulch.|
Enjoy your cannas!
