|I'd like an evergreen tree that doesn't drop many leaves. I like the chinese elm, but the leaves are very small and hard to rake up (we won't have access to a blower). Do you have anything similar to that tree, but with larger leaves?|
|It's difficult to duplicate the mottled bark of the Chinese Elm in an evergreen tree with larger leaves, but Acer paxii - Evergreen Maple might appeal to you. It is a slow-growing, evergreen tree to 30-40 feet tall with a dense, compact canopy. New pink tinged foliage emerges prior to the previous years foliage drops. In youth the foliage is trident shaped but mature more or less entire or slightly lobed with a long tail-like tip. The leaf is shiney green on upper surface with a gray cast below. Small greenish flowers are followed by attractive red winged fruit (samaras). Plant is full sun to part shade. Has a large root system that prefers regular irrigation - making this a good tree for the lawn. Drought tolerant with age. Hardy to at least 20 degrees F.
Best wishes with your new tree!
