Hi, please answer about two camellias the following :Camellia x 'Winter's Fire' and Camellia japonica 'April Remembered'. I am in zone 7, zipcode 22306. Your web site description states that April remembered blooms from November to April. What aspect of blooming time for Arpil remembered? Does it bloom once in November to Decemeber and rest during frost time and start blooming again once climate gets warm in March? Otherwise, is it continueous bloomer for 5 month?I have never seen camellia is blooming in frost time in my area, around mid Janurary to late Feburary. Does April remebered have both characters as fall sazanqua and spring camellia? Is this really keep blooming from Novemeber through April? The other option for me is, Winter's fire, but it seems to be shorter blooming time compare to April remembered. This is definetely fall sazanqua, so i expect them to bloom in fall. But I want to have long blooming camellia start from november to as long as possible. Which of these are reliable bloomer based on tme length in the description? I have bunch of camellias already so this may help you: Spring's promise start blooming from early to mid March in my yard(well protected), but not as your description states blooming starts from Janurary.

Alexandria is really at the northern end or the colder end of the range for camellias, so they are not going to bloom as prolifically as they would in a warmer climate. So the stated blooming months are what would be expected under perfect conditions rather than the marginal conditions in northern Virginia. Keep in mind too that performance can vary somewhat from year to year depending on how well established the plant is and on the weather each year. In any case I would not expect any camellia to bloom in January in your area. Your local professionally trained nursery staff should be able to help you determine which would be the best choices based on the microclimate where you will be planting them and on the usual performance of the plants you have already. Enjoy your camellias!
