Request for a source of the plant: Magnolia 'Black Tulip' - Knowledgebase Question

Dear Expert,

I found some very beautiful pictures of the above mentioned amazing flowering Magnolia species, on your homepage.

I want to send a plant of it, as a gift, to a friend in the USA (Wisconsin). Are you able to tell me a nursery or a similar store, where I can purchase one plant?

I would be very glad to realise my action.

Thank you, in advance, for your help.

Sincerely, Olaf Stemann

Thank you for asking. Right away I should mention that this magnolia is considered winter hardy only into zone 5 or higher. Unfortunately, most of Wisconsin is too cold for this plant to survive the winter. To check on the winter hardiness zone for your friend's location, you can use the postal zip code based "zone finder" at the following url. You may need to cut and paste the complete url into your browser window to make it work correctly.

This plant is a new introduction and may be difficult to find. Monrovia plants are sold through independently owned nurseries and garden centers. Each store will have its own selection of plants and their inventories can change at any time. I would suggest you contact them directly to see if they have it in stock or can special order one or would reserve one for your friend this spring. There is a zip code based dealer locator at the following url. Contact information is listed for each nursery.

Also, if the zone indicator says zone 5A (the colder portion of zone 5) you might also consult with the local garden center as to whether or not they think the local microclimate and immediate microclimate at your friend's planting site would be warm enough for this plant, or not. If not, they should be able to suggest a substitute.

I am sorry I can't be more specific for you but I hope this helps. It would be a terrific gift!
