I have a foxtail palm that is about one year old and it seems to be dying. All of the palms on it have turned brown to where I had to cut them off. Susan,

I apologize for this delayed reply to your gardening question and hope it is still helpful to you.

It seems that your foxtail palm was struggling with a root problem. Overwatering can drive oxygen from the soil resulting in root death and root rots. Overfertilizing can burn roots. Cold air drafts and lack of light are often a stressing factor on potted foxtail palms also. If you plant is still alive and one of these seems to be the possible cause you may still be able to remedy the problem. It did sound like it was on its final gasp though as I read your description of it.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening year in 2007. Please stop in again soon!
